Episode 90 – Rest for the world-weary

For a people who “do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do” (Romans 7:19), Jesus offers rest. “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:29). The rest Jesus offers is the assurance that we don’t have to hustle for our worth before God. Our salvation does not rest on a final tally of choosing “good” more often than “evil.” We only ever do the good God calls us to do because we are yoked to Jesus, who we see in the face of our neighbors, friends, and family.
Scripture: Romans 7:15-25a and Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30
