Between Sundays for Week of February 12, 2024
In worship on Sunday we glimpsed the bright shining light of Jesus on the mountaintop and heard Bishop Lee Miller’s inspiring message. (While all of worship is inspiring, Bishop Miller’s reading of the gospel and message begins around the 26:00 minute mark.) On Wednesday, the church turns its attention to mark the season of Lent, when we tune our wandering hearts to following the way of Jesus, the way of the cross.
This Lent, we are focusing on the life and faith of one of Jesus’ most famous disciples. In Peter, we see a person who is both steadfast and unsteady, a dear friend and a betrayer, a follower and a wanderer. In Peter, we often see ourselves. By following Peter’s journey, we watch the story of Jesus unfold through the eyes of a very normal human trying to figure it all out—just like us. Each step of Peter’s journey is combined with a phrase of the familiar hymn “Come Thou Fount” (ELW 807). By focusing our lens on Peter and placing ourselves in his shoes, we hope to experience Jesus from a new perspective.
Each Wednesday and Sunday throughout the season of Lent there will be opportunities to be strengthened for your Lenten journey through worship, as well as opportunities for deepening community connections through conversation. You can learn about all our plans for Lent by visiting our website.
