What is Pentecost Sunday?

Jun 09, 2019

As we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, the color red is prominent in our worship space – in the red geraniums, the vestments worn by the Pastors, the scarf on the pulpit, and the wall banner. As the liturgical color for Pentecost Sunday, red signifies both joy and the fire of the Holy Spirit. We see this in the red flames swaying above the baptismal font, reminding us of the blowing of the “mighty wind” and the free movement of the Spirit. The spring flowers on the Easter wreath in the narthex have been replaced with red flowers in commemoration of this festival day.
