This Week’s Partner in Mission – Grace House

May 22, 2020

This week’s partner mission highlight is Grace House. Grace House attempts to provide a smooth transition to community life for homeless men recently released from correctional facilities by providing a highly-structured program based on Christian principles. The Grace House program encourages men who are on parole to become productive for the kingdom of God, their families, their communities, and themselves. This is accomplished by providing training, counseling, and support, as well as quality shelter, food, case management, medical, prescription, and mental health services. Grace House also helps each individual with job readiness, job linkages, life skills, and finding permanent housing.

Since its opening in 2008, Grace House has “graduated” over 500 residents. Over 70 percent of these men now successfully lead new lives free from drugs and crime. By comparison, NYS correctional facilities have a success rate of less than 30 percent. With the addition of two more homes, Grace House can now accommodate over 50 residents at a time. BLC has contributed sweat equity for projects at Grace House and currently donates $4500 annually from our M&SC budget. We are one of the few congregations in the synod that supports prison or parole ministries.
