Serve Our Neighbor…

Special Opportunity to Serve:

This is Alli O. and I truly hope you and yours are healthy and safe as we all embrace the challenges of this health crisis! I’m writing today because I am assisting the United Way of Rochester in recruiting volunteers for a critical need in our community – distribution of food.

As you may have heard through the local media, Foodlink is doing a heroic job bringing food into our community. Now they need to marshal an army of volunteers to help get that food packaged and distributed. From March 19– 24, we are looking for 40 volunteers for each shift from 9 am – noon and again from 1-4 pm to meet at the Convention Center Main Hall to package food. Volunteers are not being asked to sign-up for all shifts, but to plug in where they are able. Parking is available in the adjacent garage; bring parking ticket in with you for validation.

Only people ages 16-60 are eligible to participate in this activity. If you are affiliated with a youth organization that has an adult who could also participate, this could be a great service opportunity for them.

I’ve been assured that all required social distancing recommendations will be practiced in this initiative as to not endanger any volunteers. While 40 people are needed in each shift, they will be separated into small groups, will be wearing gloves to minimize any transfer, and work flows will be organized with adequate separation of the volunteers. Foodlink has been working through the design of this workflow with support of the County Health Dept for the past few weeks.

Specific details on the initiative can be found at the links below. PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SIGNED UP IN THE VOLUNTEER PORTAL AS AN INDIVIDUAL OR TEAM CONTACT, YOU WILL BE PROMPTED TO DO THIS BEFORE YOU CAN SIGN UP FOR A SHIFT.

The United Way Volunteer Coordinator, Amber, is also available to answer questions. I have copied her on this email too if you’d like to reach out to her directly. I’m also glad to track down answers for you. Thanks in advance for sharing this critical volunteer opportunity!

Blessings,
Alli O., Volunteer, on behalf of United Way of Rochester
