*Mission Focus for January – Slavery and Human Trafficking

Jan 12, 2018

The Mission focus for January is Slavery and Human Trafficking.  Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery where people profit from the control and exploitation of others.

On Monday, January 8 USA Today/Democrat and Chronicle ran the headline, “In the United Kingdom, modern slavery is thriving.”  We would be deluding ourselves if we thought slavery was not also thriving in the United States.  Agriculture, construction, hospitality, manufacturing, and car washes are part of the forced labor market as well as children and adults forced into the sex trade.

What do you do if you believe you have information about human trafficking?  If you are in the United States and believe someone may be a victim of human trafficking, report your suspicions to law enforcement by calling 911 or the 24-hour National Human Trafficking Hotline line at 1- 888-373-7888.  Trafficking victims, including undocumented individuals, are eligible for services and immigration assistance.  Find out more at https://www.state.gov/j/tip/id/help/
