Abide: Small Group Opportunity Open for All!

May 09, 2020

The Upstate New York Synod is inviting people in ELCA congregations across Upstate New York to gather online with small groups to build community and talk about what it means to be children of God, parents, children, spouses, friends, and neighbors in these days. While we believe that physical distancing is vital for the good of our neighbor, we also believe that we are called to be in community with one another.

Now that Synod Assembly has been postponed and Bishop Macholz recommends no in-person worship through the month of June we want to provide space for you to support, pray, lament, and rejoice with others across Upstate NY.

These small groups will gather for six weeks (May 18 – June 28) with a small group leader who will convene your group. The small groups will meet via Zoom for one hour once a week. Different from a Bible study, these small groups are being created to offer space for conversation, mutual support and encouragement around weekly topics. We are gathering these six weeks under the theme Abide, based on John 15:9 – “As the parents has loved me, so I love you; abide in my love.” This registration form:   https://www.docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeFtfVe1ZrVhEFBxYKpvv6b6smjjIwr4lL1r8ccbrS8kvyNGQ/viewform   will help us organize folks into those groups. Please register by Thursday, May 14 at 11:59 pm. You will get a follow-up email on Sunday, May 17 with more information about your group, including your meeting time and how to access the small group materials before your first meeting.

We are so excited you’re here and we’re looking forward to this small group experiment. If you have questions, please email Pr. Norma Malfatti (nmalfatti@upstatenysynod.org). May God’s peace and presence remain with you always.
